Every state dental board sets its own continuing-education rules for registered dental hygienists: a total number of CE hours, a renewal cycle (most commonly every 2 years), and often mandated topics like infection control, ethics, or opioids, plus delivery limits on how much can be self-study versus live. Many boards also require a current CPR/BLS card. Requirements differ enough between states that hygienists licensed in more than one place have to track each separately.
Boards typically expect you to keep your CE certificates for several years and can request them in a random audit. A running record of what you've completed, and what you still need, is the simplest way to stay renewal-ready. Learn how to track your CE credits →
